Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics
By Katie Nord

Marshall Fields at Water Tower Place has made a wise decision by collaborating with Lush Fresh Handmade Cosmetics. Lush had much success last November when it opened its first Chicago location at 859 W. Armitage. It was only natural for the company to expand their business in the windy city.

“Lush’s story began in Poole , England , with Mark Constantine, Lush’s Managing Director, and a close-knit creative team with whom he has worked with for nearly 20 years,” explains Brandi Halls of Lush's U.S. Media Relations . “The demise of Constantine ’s previous venture, a mail order business entitled Cosmetics To Go, collapsed as a result of over-trading. Three months later in 1995, the same team created an inspired new venture.”

Lush is a store to be reckoned with. Not only does Lush have over 185 shops worldwide, but they have an internet web site (, which is simple to navigate) and a mail order catalog, Lush Times. So, no matter where you are in the world, Lush will always be available.

Lush is a unique store because their products are designed for all ages, male and female. Rather than creating a product line towards one target market, the company focuses on developing high quality, effective products. Lush’s products will catch your eye with their unique design and scribbled writing.

One thing you can count on with Lush is receiving hand made products with fresh ingredients. All of these ingredients are written on the outside of the bottle so you know exactly what you are putting on your skin. “We have local providers delivering fresh organic fruits and vegetables to the factory everyday,” explains Halls. “We don’t have a warehouse where finished products sit and get old. Instead, we make products based on store orders and ship them out that same week. We put the “made on” and “best before” dates on all of our products and even go as far as to show a picture of the individual who made that product by hand.”

Besides having fresh products with organic ingredients, Lush strongly believes in non-animal testing. Not only do they not use animal byproducts or animals in their product research, they encourage others to do the same. Lush has worked towards this for years and has been at the forefront of campaigns to prevent cruel and unnecessary testing.

Lush will be launching a few new products this upcoming season. Their best selling product is the Dream Cream body moisturizer, and it is no surprise why. It smells great and leaves your skin feeling baby soft without the greasy mess.

Some days are better than others, but for those off days, a Happy Pill Bath Bomb will surely put some sunshine in your life. Happy Pill is shaped like an aspirin and contains Olive Branch fragrance on one side and Happy Hippy on the other side.

If you are looking to give the perfect gift, a Lush gift set will defiantly make someone smile. Try the Avobunny, a new gift set launching for Easter or Practically Perfect Mum, a gift set launching for Mother’s Day.

Lush offers in-store promotions throughout the year. If you are not satisfied with the products you receive, you can always return them within 31 days of your purchase with a receipt. No receipt is necessary for an exchange.

Everyone can find something at Lush. Not only do their products make you feel great on the outside, but you will feel even better on the inside. There is something to be said for fresh products with organic ingredients. Your body will thank you in more ways than one for not using harsh chemicals on your skin and hair.
